Well, I must say that July is turning out to be quite a surprising one following a series of setbacks that made me start to wonder if my luck with “Nursery Crimes Part One: The Ominous Overture” on the festival circuit had reached its end. I’d been passed over by some key festivals I really had my sights on getting into and was rather down about it when the winds of change began (rather unexpectedly, I might add) to blow in my favor.
After a decade of submitting my short films to various festivals around the globe, I received a notification earlier in the day informing me that “Nursery Crimes Part One” is an official selection of the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival (BISFF), which is India’s only Academy Award Qualifying festival, and also shortlisted as a finalist in this festival’s non-competition section! Even though I originally submitted to BISFF’s animation competition section (30 shorts were ultimately chosen), it amazes me that I got selected at all under the circumstances . . . I recently had an “almost” kind of moment for another major festival, but there was a silver lining and I hope to post that news once I get word sometime between September 2022 and May 2023. In any case, getting back to BISFF, it’s scheduled to be a hybrid festival (online and in person) from 4 – 14 August 2022, so I’ll post updates (to include screening information) as I get word about them.

Next up, the North American / U.S. premiere of “Nursery Crimes Part One” will take place during next weekend’s Something Wicked Film Festival (29 – 31 July) and the live portion of this event is being held in Lawrenceville, Georgia. My short will be screening online during that timeframe and tickets are available for purchase here. I’m also honored to be among the nominees for “Best animation / Puppetry Short Film,” so it’s pretty much a given that I’ll be spending next weekend at home in my PJs binge watching all of the amazing films in the lineup!

Lastly, I’m please to share that “Nursery Crimes Part One” scored a screening at another horror convention in Florida! This one is the SIN Film Festival, part of Sinister Nights, and is being held at the James L. Knight Convention Center in Miami from 3 – 5 September 2022. Last year’s celebrity guests included cast members from several of Rob Zombie’s films and I really wish I could attend! However, I already have my hands plenty full with two screenings in August, followed by another in November, and will likely be in need a bit of a break from traveling come Labor Day. Looks like a trip to Miami is not in the cards right now, although I do hope to make it down there at some point in the future.
